A group of researchers from Seoul National University of Science and Technology have presented flying shopping carts called Palletrone Cart. Everything is arranged insanely simply: at the base of the cart there is a drone that supports it at arm’s height, and you put whatever you want on the platform. Well, almost everything: so far the cart can withstand no more than 2.93 kg.
The downsides don’t end there. The drones’ battery capacity is far from ideal, as noted by university staff. In addition, the robots make a lot of noise. Some people won’t care, but people with sensitive hearing won’t appreciate it.
In addition to shopping malls and supermarkets, engineers want to implement the development in logistics and delivery services. The latter is theoretically feasible with the proper development of AI, so that the cart with the order does not get lost along the way. All that remains is to supplement such a delivery person with eyes in the form of a camera, and it’s ready.
But these are all plans for a bright future. According to the team of creators, they will first focus on developing a docking system that will allow the drone to recharge on the go.
